Need broader coverage?

Regional and Global eSIMs cover Germany and plenty more.

Your eSIM arrives within minutes, starts when you first connect in Germany, and tops up whenever you need more.

Across Germany, you're in good hands. Off to Germany? You're in good hands.

Four things we'll tell you before you pay, not after.

Networks vary by destination and are listed on each plan. All trade marks are the property of their respective owners. Halo is not affiliated with these operators.

Staying connected in Germany

Germany has strong coverage in the cities and along the autobahn network, and a well-documented weakness on the railways and in parts of the rural east. Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Frankfurt and Cologne are all dense, and city U-Bahn and S-Bahn networks have coverage in most central stations. Long-distance ICE routes are the common frustration, with signal dropping repeatedly through cuttings, tunnels and forested stretches, so download anything you need before a long journey rather than assuming you can load it on the way. A Halo eSIM installs before you fly and starts counting on its first connection after you arrive, so a connecting flight through another country costs you nothing. If your trip crosses into Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands or Czechia, a regional Europe plan usually costs less than separate country plans and removes any thinking at the border.

How much data you'll need

Four to six GB for a week. German cities are well served by public transport and Wi-Fi, so navigation is lighter than a driving trip. Add data if you are driving long distances or if you plan to work from trains, where you will reconnect often and download more than you expect.

5G

Our Germany plans run on networks carrying 5G, widely available across the major cities and the main autobahn corridors.

Questions? We've got answers.

  • Why does my signal keep dropping on ICE trains?

This is a known characteristic of German long-distance rail rather than a fault with your eSIM. ICE routes run through frequent cuttings, tunnels and wooded stretches where coverage is weak, and trains move fast enough that handovers between masts fail. Download maps, tickets and anything you want to read before you board.

  • Is coverage the same in the east as in the west?

Broadly, in the cities. Berlin, Leipzig and Dresden are well covered. Rural Brandenburg, Mecklenburg and parts of Saxony-Anhalt have noticeably thinner coverage than comparable rural areas in the west, so plan for gaps if you are driving through them.

  • Can I call and send SMS on my Germany eSIM?

Halo eSIMs are exclusively data-only eSIMs. While you can engage in voice calls and messaging through WhatsApp, Facetime, and other widely used VOIP apps, traditional phone calls and SMS are not supported.

  • Is my device compatible with this Germany eSIM?

Most phones from 2018 onwards support eSIM, including iPhone XR and XS and newer, Pixel 3 and newer, Galaxy S20 and newer. If it's a reasonably recent phone, you're probably fine. Check our device compatibility page if you want to be sure.

  • When should I set up my Germany eSIM?

Before you leave, while you're still on Wi-Fi. Your plan only starts counting when you first connect to a network at your destination, so there's no cost to installing early. Germany plans run from 1 to 45 days from that first connection. One less thing to sort at the airport.

  • Which networks does my Germany eSIM use?

Each plan lists its own networks and speed policy under Plan details on this page. Which networks a plan uses is set by our network partners and can change without notice, so we show them per plan rather than for the destination as a whole. Your device finds and connects to a supported network on its own when you arrive.

  • Can I top up my Germany eSIM?

Yes, on the fixed-data plans. Running low? Purchase another plan for the same destination from your order page. The new data gets added to your existing eSIM. No reinstall needed. Top-ups are not available on the Unlimited (daily) plans. To keep using data after an Unlimited plan ends, buy a new plan.

  • Can I hotspot with my Germany eSIM?

Hotspot availability depends on the plan. Halo adds no separate hotspot cap and does not meter hotspot data differently, so on plans that support it you can share your connection with a laptop, tablet or travel companion where the local network allows. Hotspot is provided by the network operator in Germany rather than by Halo, so it is not something we can guarantee on every plan.
