What does Unlimited mean on a Halo plan?

Halo Unlimited plans give you a set amount of full-speed data each day – currently 3 GB. Once you have used the daily amount, your connection continues at a slower speed for the rest of that day. You are never cut off. The full-speed amount resets the next day.

This cycle repeats every day for the duration of your plan.

How the daily allowance works

Each Unlimited plan includes a daily full-speed data amount – currently 3 GB. Use it for browsing, maps, messaging, video calls, and streaming as you normally would. Data consumed through hotspot and tethering counts toward the same daily amount.

When the daily amount is used up:

  • Your data connection does not stop. It continues at a slower speed.
  • All activity – including hotspot – runs at the slower speed for the rest of that day.
  • The full-speed amount resets automatically the next day. There is nothing you need to do.

You can check your device’s data usage to monitor how much you have used. See Check your remaining data for instructions.

Plan duration

Every Unlimited plan has a fixed number of days (the duration you purchased). The countdown starts when your eSIM first connects to a network at your destination.

When the days run out, the plan ends and the eSIM stops providing a data connection.

Unlimited plans cannot be topped up

Unlike fixed-data plans, Unlimited plans cannot be topped up or extended. When your plan ends, you need to purchase a new plan for your destination if you want to continue using data.

Buy and install the new plan before your current one expires to avoid a gap in coverage. See Can I extend an Unlimited plan, or what happens when it ends? for the full process.

Hotspot and tethering

Halo does not apply a separate hotspot cap on Unlimited plans. Where hotspot is available, it counts toward your daily full-speed amount, and it continues to run at the reduced speed once that daily amount is used, until the next daily reset. Hotspot itself is provided by the network operator in your destination rather than by Halo, so it is not something we can guarantee on every plan.

For setup instructions and tips on reducing hotspot data usage, see Can I share my data with other devices?.

How Unlimited differs from fixed-data plans

Unlimited plan Fixed-data plan
Data amount Currently 3 GB of full-speed data per day, resets each day Total allowance for the plan’s full validity
After data is used Connection continues at a slower speed Connection stops until you top up
Top-up available No Yes
Hotspot Where available, counts toward daily amount Where available, counts toward total allowance

Fair use policy

The daily full-speed amount and the slower speed after it is used are part of Halo’s fair use policy for Unlimited plans. Full details are in the Acceptable Use Policy.
