When to installNetworks vary by destination and are listed on each plan. All trade marks are the property of their respective owners. Halo is not affiliated with these operators.
Ireland covers Dublin, Cork, Galway and the main road network well, and thins noticeably across the west and the midlands. The Wild Atlantic Way is the case to plan for: the towns along it have coverage and long stretches of the coast road between them do not, particularly in Connemara, west Mayo and the Beara and Dingle peninsulas. A Halo eSIM installs before you fly and starts counting on its first connection after you arrive. Rail coverage between the cities is reasonable with gaps in the interior. Note that Ireland and the United Kingdom are separate destinations for mobile plans, so a trip taking in Dublin and Belfast needs coverage for both, which a regional Europe plan usually handles more cheaply than buying them separately.
Three to five GB for a week. City stays are light because Wi-Fi is universal in cafes and pubs. A driving trip along the west coast uses more, since navigation runs continuously and you will download maps in advance for the stretches without signal.
Our Ireland plans run on a network carrying 5G, available in Dublin, Cork and the larger towns.

No. Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom for mobile network purposes and is not included in an Ireland plan. If your trip crosses the border, which is unmarked and easy to cross without noticing, a regional Europe plan covering both is the simpler option.
In the towns and villages, yes. On the stretches of coast road between them, frequently not, especially in Connemara and on the Beara, Dingle and Sheep's Head peninsulas. Download the route offline before you set out for the day.
Halo eSIMs are exclusively data-only eSIMs. While you can engage in voice calls and messaging through WhatsApp, Facetime, and other widely used VOIP apps, traditional phone calls and SMS are not supported.
Most phones from 2018 onwards support eSIM, including iPhone XR and XS and newer, Pixel 3 and newer, Galaxy S20 and newer. If it's a reasonably recent phone, you're probably fine. Check our device compatibility page if you want to be sure.
Before you leave, while you're still on Wi-Fi. Your plan only starts counting when you first connect to a network at your destination, so there's no cost to installing early. Ireland plans run from 1 to 45 days from that first connection. One less thing to sort at the airport.
Each plan lists its own networks and speed policy under Plan details on this page. Which networks a plan uses is set by our network partners and can change without notice, so we show them per plan rather than for the destination as a whole. Your device finds and connects to a supported network on its own when you arrive.
Yes, on the fixed-data plans. Running low? Purchase another plan for the same destination from your order page. The new data gets added to your existing eSIM. No reinstall needed. Top-ups are not available on the Unlimited (daily) plans. To keep using data after an Unlimited plan ends, buy a new plan.
Hotspot availability depends on the plan. Halo adds no separate hotspot cap and does not meter hotspot data differently, so on plans that support it you can share your connection with a laptop, tablet or travel companion where the local network allows. Hotspot is provided by the network operator in Ireland rather than by Halo, so it is not something we can guarantee on every plan.
