When to installNetworks vary by destination and are listed on each plan. All trade marks are the property of their respective owners. Halo is not affiliated with these operators.
The Philippines has good coverage in Manila, Cebu, Davao and the larger provincial cities, and highly variable coverage across the rest of its seven thousand islands. Popular destinations like Boracay, Palawan's El Nido and Coron, and Siargao are covered around the towns and main beaches and much less so elsewhere. A Halo eSIM installs before you fly and starts counting on its first connection after you arrive. Inter-island ferries and bangka transfers lose signal in open water, and some of those crossings are long. Typhoon season between June and November can take local networks down for a day or more, which is worth knowing when planning. Download offline maps, ferry schedules and accommodation details before you leave a city, and keep flight confirmations saved locally rather than in an email you need signal to open.
Five to eight GB for a week. Messaging apps and maps carry most of it, and you will use translation less than in East Asia. Island hopping raises usage because you check schedules constantly, and resort Wi-Fi outside the main towns is often slow enough to be unusable.
Our Philippines plans run on networks carrying 5G, which is established in Metro Manila and Cebu and limited elsewhere.

Around the towns, yes. El Nido, Coron town and General Luna all have coverage. It falls away quickly on the boat trips, the more remote beaches and the roads between towns, so download maps and any bookings before you set out for the day.
Local networks can go down, sometimes for a day or more, and power cuts compound it. This affects every operator equally and is not something an eSIM can work around. Keep offline copies of your flight details and accommodation address, and check official advisories before travelling in season.
Halo eSIMs are exclusively data-only eSIMs. While you can engage in voice calls and messaging through WhatsApp, Facetime, and other widely used VOIP apps, traditional phone calls and SMS are not supported.
Most phones from 2018 onwards support eSIM, including iPhone XR and XS and newer, Pixel 3 and newer, Galaxy S20 and newer. If it's a reasonably recent phone, you're probably fine. Check our device compatibility page if you want to be sure.
Before you leave, while you're still on Wi-Fi. Your plan only starts counting when you first connect to a network at your destination, so there's no cost to installing early. Philippines plans run from 1 to 45 days from that first connection. One less thing to sort at the airport.
Each plan lists its own networks and speed policy under Plan details on this page. Which networks a plan uses is set by our network partners and can change without notice, so we show them per plan rather than for the destination as a whole. Your device finds and connects to a supported network on its own when you arrive.
Yes, on the fixed-data plans. Running low? Purchase another plan for the same destination from your order page. The new data gets added to your existing eSIM. No reinstall needed. Top-ups are not available on the Unlimited (daily) plans. To keep using data after an Unlimited plan ends, buy a new plan.
Hotspot availability depends on the plan. Halo adds no separate hotspot cap and does not meter hotspot data differently, so on plans that support it you can share your connection with a laptop, tablet or travel companion where the local network allows. Hotspot is provided by the network operator in Philippines rather than by Halo, so it is not something we can guarantee on every plan.
