Need broader coverage?

Regional and Global eSIMs cover Thailand and plenty more.

Your eSIM arrives within minutes, starts when you first connect in Thailand, and tops up whenever you need more.

Across Thailand, you're in good hands. Off to Thailand? You're in good hands.

Four things we'll tell you before you pay, not after.

Networks vary by destination and are listed on each plan. All trade marks are the property of their respective owners. Halo is not affiliated with these operators.

Staying connected in Thailand

Thailand is well covered wherever visitors actually go. Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Krabi and the main islands all have dense mobile networks, and coverage follows the highways and the ferry routes between them. A Halo eSIM installs on Wi-Fi before you travel and begins counting only when it first connects in Thailand, which matters if you are routing through another country first. Coverage thins in the national parks and the far northern hills, and on the smaller islands it can drop to a single bar once you are away from the pier and the main beach. Download offline maps for island hopping and for the trip up to Pai. Data is cheap and plentiful in Thailand and the networks are used to heavy visitor load in high season, so speeds in the resort towns hold up better than you might expect.

How much data you'll need

Five to eight GB covers a typical week: ride-hailing, maps, messaging, restaurant lookups and a steady social media habit. Island hopping pushes it up, because you will lean on maps and translation more and hotel Wi-Fi on the smaller islands is often slow enough that you give up and use mobile data instead. Budget 10 GB or more for two weeks with any video streaming.

5G

5G is available on Thai networks carrying our plans and shows up readily in Bangkok, Phuket and the larger provincial cities.

Questions? We've got answers.

  • Will my eSIM work on the islands and on the ferries?

On the islands, yes, though coverage is strongest near the piers, the main beaches and the towns. Ferry crossings between the mainland and Koh Samui, Koh Tao or Phuket usually hold a signal for much of the route but expect gaps in the middle. Save your ferry ticket and accommodation details offline before you board.

  • Should I install before I arrive if I am connecting through another country?

Yes, and it costs you nothing to do so. The plan starts counting from its first connection in Thailand, not from the moment you install it, so a long layover in Doha or Singapore does not eat into your days.

  • Can I call and send SMS on my Thailand eSIM?

Halo eSIMs are exclusively data-only eSIMs. While you can engage in voice calls and messaging through WhatsApp, Facetime, and other widely used VOIP apps, traditional phone calls and SMS are not supported.

  • Is my device compatible with this Thailand eSIM?

Most phones from 2018 onwards support eSIM, including iPhone XR and XS and newer, Pixel 3 and newer, Galaxy S20 and newer. If it's a reasonably recent phone, you're probably fine. Check our device compatibility page if you want to be sure.

  • When should I set up my Thailand eSIM?

Before you leave, while you're still on Wi-Fi. Your plan only starts counting when you first connect to a network at your destination, so there's no cost to installing early. Thailand plans run from 1 to 45 days from that first connection. One less thing to sort at the airport.

  • Which networks does my Thailand eSIM use?

Each plan lists its own networks and speed policy under Plan details on this page. Which networks a plan uses is set by our network partners and can change without notice, so we show them per plan rather than for the destination as a whole. Your device finds and connects to a supported network on its own when you arrive.

  • Can I top up my Thailand eSIM?

Yes, on the fixed-data plans. Running low? Purchase another plan for the same destination from your order page. The new data gets added to your existing eSIM. No reinstall needed. Top-ups are not available on the Unlimited (daily) plans. To keep using data after an Unlimited plan ends, buy a new plan.

  • Can I hotspot with my Thailand eSIM?

Hotspot availability depends on the plan. Halo adds no separate hotspot cap and does not meter hotspot data differently, so on plans that support it you can share your connection with a laptop, tablet or travel companion where the local network allows. Hotspot is provided by the network operator in Thailand rather than by Halo, so it is not something we can guarantee on every plan.
