Turkey has strong coverage across its west, along the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts and around Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir. Cappadocia and the main tourist regions are well served. Coverage thins across the eastern interior and in the mountains of the northeast. There is one thing to know before you travel that applies nowhere else on this site: a Turkish eSIM must be installed before you arrive in the country and cannot be installed once you are inside it, and top-ups are not available while you are in Turkey. Install the profile at home on Wi-Fi and it will be ready when you land. The plan still starts counting only on its first connection in Turkey, so installing early costs you nothing. Istanbul has coverage across its metro and tram network.
Four to seven GB for a week. Istanbul is a maps-heavy city and you will use translation regularly. A coastal trip or a few days in Cappadocia is lighter. Because you cannot top up while in the country, it is worth buying one size larger than you think you need rather than cutting it fine.
Our Turkey plans run on networks carrying 5G, which is available in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir.

Turkish regulations mean the profile cannot be downloaded from inside the country, so the installation has to happen while you are still elsewhere and on Wi-Fi. This is the single most common reason a traveller arrives in Turkey without working data. Install it at home and it activates on its own when you land.
You will not be able to download the profile once you are in the country, so the eSIM cannot be activated from there. The practical options are to use hotel or airport Wi-Fi to arrange something else, or to have someone install and share a connection. This is why the install-before-you-fly step matters more in Turkey than anywhere else we sell, and why the warning appears at the top of this page.
Halo eSIMs are exclusively data-only eSIMs. While you can engage in voice calls and messaging through WhatsApp, Facetime, and other widely used VOIP apps, traditional phone calls and SMS are not supported.
Most phones from 2018 onwards support eSIM, including iPhone XR and XS and newer, Pixel 3 and newer, Galaxy S20 and newer. If it's a reasonably recent phone, you're probably fine. Check our device compatibility page if you want to be sure.
Before you leave, while you're still on Wi-Fi. Your plan only starts counting when you first connect to a network at your destination, so there's no cost to installing early. Turkey plans run from 1 to 45 days from that first connection. One less thing to sort at the airport.
Each plan lists its own networks and speed policy under Plan details on this page. Which networks a plan uses is set by our network partners and can change without notice, so we show them per plan rather than for the destination as a whole. Your device finds and connects to a supported network on its own when you arrive.
Yes, on the fixed-data plans. Running low? Purchase another plan for the same destination from your order page. The new data gets added to your existing eSIM. No reinstall needed. Top-ups are not available on the Unlimited (daily) plans. To keep using data after an Unlimited plan ends, buy a new plan.
Hotspot availability depends on the plan. Halo adds no separate hotspot cap and does not meter hotspot data differently, so on plans that support it you can share your connection with a laptop, tablet or travel companion where the local network allows. Hotspot is provided by the network operator in Turkey rather than by Halo, so it is not something we can guarantee on every plan.
