When to installNetworks vary by destination and are listed on each plan. All trade marks are the property of their respective owners. Halo is not affiliated with these operators.
The United Kingdom is densely covered across England and Wales and along the Scottish central belt, and noticeably thinner in the Highlands, mid-Wales and parts of the south west. A Halo eSIM installs before you travel and starts counting on its first connection after you arrive. Rail coverage is the common complaint: the west coast main line, the routes through the Peak District and much of the Great Western line drop signal repeatedly, so download anything you need for a long journey before boarding. London Underground now has mobile coverage on a growing number of lines but not yet all of them. City centre Wi-Fi is widespread in cafes, pubs and hotels and is worth using. If your trip takes in Ireland as well, check whether a regional Europe plan covers both, because the United Kingdom and Ireland are separate destinations in most catalogues.
Three to six GB covers a normal week. Public transport, walking and short distances mean less navigation than a driving holiday, and Wi-Fi is close to universal indoors. Add a few GB if you are driving in Scotland or Wales, where you will keep maps open for longer, or if you plan to stream on long train journeys.
Our United Kingdom plans run on networks carrying 5G, which is well established in the larger cities and patchier in rural areas.

On some lines. Mobile coverage has been rolled out progressively across the network and now reaches many central stations and tunnel sections, but it is not yet everywhere. Expect it to come and go. Station Wi-Fi is available across most of the network as a fallback.
No. The Republic of Ireland is a separate destination and is not included in a United Kingdom plan. Northern Ireland is included. If your trip covers both, look at a regional Europe plan, which will usually cover the two together for less than buying separately.
Halo eSIMs are exclusively data-only eSIMs. While you can engage in voice calls and messaging through WhatsApp, Facetime, and other widely used VOIP apps, traditional phone calls and SMS are not supported.
Most phones from 2018 onwards support eSIM, including iPhone XR and XS and newer, Pixel 3 and newer, Galaxy S20 and newer. If it's a reasonably recent phone, you're probably fine. Check our device compatibility page if you want to be sure.
Before you leave, while you're still on Wi-Fi. Your plan only starts counting when you first connect to a network at your destination, so there's no cost to installing early. United Kingdom plans run from 1 to 45 days from that first connection. One less thing to sort at the airport.
Each plan lists its own networks and speed policy under Plan details on this page. Which networks a plan uses is set by our network partners and can change without notice, so we show them per plan rather than for the destination as a whole. Your device finds and connects to a supported network on its own when you arrive.
Yes, on the fixed-data plans. Running low? Purchase another plan for the same destination from your order page. The new data gets added to your existing eSIM. No reinstall needed. Top-ups are not available on the Unlimited (daily) plans. To keep using data after an Unlimited plan ends, buy a new plan.
Hotspot availability depends on the plan. Halo adds no separate hotspot cap and does not meter hotspot data differently, so on plans that support it you can share your connection with a laptop, tablet or travel companion where the local network allows. Hotspot is provided by the network operator in United Kingdom rather than by Halo, so it is not something we can guarantee on every plan.
