Install your eSIM on Android

About two minutes. Find your phone below, then do it before you fly, while you still have Wi-Fi.

What you need

  • An eSIM-compatible Android phone. The minimum Android version is set by your model, not by Halo, and the compatibility checker shows the exact one for yours
  • A Wi-Fi or mobile data connection. Your phone downloads the eSIM profile over it
  • Your Halo eSIM, from your order confirmation email or the purchase success page

Google Pixel

Pixel 3 and later. On the earliest generation, eSIM support is limited to some carriers in some regions.

  1. Open Settings on your Pixel.
  2. Tap Network and internet.
  3. Tap SIMs.
  4. Tap the + button, or Add, depending on your Android version.
  5. When prompted, tap Don't have a SIM card?
  6. Tap Next, then point your camera at the Halo QR code.
  7. When the carrier plan details appear, tap Confirm.
  8. Wait for the profile to download. This takes 30 seconds to 2 minutes.
  9. Tap Done when the installation completes.

Your new eSIM now appears under SIMs in Network and internet.

Samsung Galaxy

Galaxy S20 and later, including the Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold ranges.

  1. Open Settings on your Samsung device.
  2. Tap Connections.
  3. Tap SIM manager, called SIM card manager on older One UI versions.
  4. Tap Add eSIM.
  5. Tap Scan QR code from service provider.
  6. Point your camera at the Halo QR code.
  7. When the plan details appear, tap Confirm.
  8. Wait for the profile to download. This takes 30 seconds to 2 minutes.
  9. Tap Done when the installation completes.

Your new eSIM now appears under SIM manager in Settings.

Motorola, Xiaomi, Oppo and others

Any eSIM-compatible Android phone. The menu names vary by brand, but the process is the same.

  1. Open Settings on your phone.
  2. Tap Network and internet, Connections, or Mobile network. The label varies by manufacturer.
  3. Look for SIM manager, SIM cards, or SIMs.
  4. Tap Add eSIM, Add mobile plan, or the + button.
  5. Select Scan QR code, or Don't have a SIM card?
  6. Point your camera at the Halo QR code.
  7. When the carrier plan details appear, tap Confirm or Accept.
  8. Wait for the profile to download. This takes 30 seconds to 2 minutes.
  9. Tap Done when the installation completes.

Your new eSIM now appears in your SIM or mobile network settings.

Choose your data line

If you already have a SIM in the phone, tell Android which line carries data. This is the part worth getting right.

  1. Open your SIM or mobile network settings.
  2. Tap your Halo eSIM and turn Mobile data on.
  3. Go back, tap your usual SIM, and turn its Mobile data off.
  4. Turn off data switching or data roaming on your usual SIM. This is the step that stops your phone quietly falling back to your home line and running up roaming charges.

Your usual SIM now handles calls and texts, and the Halo eSIM handles data.

Before you fly

Install the day before you travel, while you are on a connection you trust. The eSIM activates by itself when you arrive and connect to a supported network, so there is nothing to do at the airport.

Keep your physical SIM in the phone. The Halo eSIM works alongside it, and you will want your usual number for texts.
