Install your Halo eSIM on your Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO phone using the QR code from your order confirmation email. The process takes about 2 minutes. Xiaomi phones run either HyperOS (most phones from 2024 on) or MIUI (older phones), and the menu names differ slightly between the two, so both are given below.
What you need
- An eSIM-compatible Xiaomi phone. Not every Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO model has eSIM, and support can differ between versions of the same model sold in different countries. Our compatibility checker shows whether your model supports it
- A Wi-Fi or mobile data connection (required to download the eSIM profile)
- Your Halo eSIM (from your order confirmation email or the purchase success page)
If you are not sure which system your phone runs, open Settings and tap About phone. It shows either a HyperOS or a MIUI version.
Steps on HyperOS
- Open Settings.
- Tap Mobile networks.
- Tap Manage eSIM (on some versions it is eSIM, or it sits under the SIM you tap).
- Tap Add eSIM.
- Tap Scan QR code and point your camera at the Halo QR code.
- When the plan details appear, confirm the download.
- Wait for the profile to download. This takes 30 seconds to 2 minutes.
Steps on MIUI
- Open Settings.
- Tap SIM cards and mobile networks.
- Tap Manage eSIM. If it is greyed out, turn on Use eSIM first.
- Tap Add eSIM.
- Scan the Halo QR code.
- Confirm the download and wait for it to finish.
If your phone cannot scan the code, look for an option to enter the details manually and use the SM-DP+ address and activation code from your order confirmation email. See Install your eSIM without scanning a QR code.
Menu names vary between HyperOS and MIUI versions and between regions. If you cannot find an option, search your Settings for “eSIM”.
Set your data line
- Open Settings > Mobile networks (SIM cards and mobile networks on MIUI).
- Under Mobile data, or Data SIM, choose your Halo eSIM.
- Tap the Halo eSIM and turn on Data roaming. Leave data roaming off on your home SIM if you want to avoid roaming charges there.
Set the APN if data does not start
Your Halo eSIM normally sets its own APN when it installs. Some Xiaomi phones do not pick it up automatically, so if the Halo line shows signal bars but data will not load after you land, check it:
- Open Settings > Mobile networks (SIM cards and mobile networks on MIUI).
- Tap the Halo eSIM.
- Tap Access Point Names. On some versions this is under Edit access point, or inside Manage eSIM.
- If the APN for your plan is not listed, tap New APN (or the plus button).
- Enter Halo as the name and the APN for your plan in the APN field. Leave the username and password empty.
- Save it, then go back and select the new entry so it is the one in use.
The APN for your plan is shown on your plan card on your eSIM portal page, with a copy button. Recent order confirmation emails carry it too. APNs differ between plans, so use the one for your own order rather than one from another guide. More detail is in APN settings for your Halo eSIM.
On a dual SIM phone the APN applies to the SIM you tapped in step 2, so make sure that was the Halo line. After saving, turn on aeroplane mode for ten seconds and then turn it off again so the phone reconnects.
Activate before you travel
Install your Halo eSIM while you still have a stable internet connection, ideally the day before your trip. The eSIM will activate automatically when you arrive at your destination and connect to a supported network.
If your eSIM shows “No Service” after arriving, see If your Halo eSIM isn’t connecting.
