Thailand has strong mobile network coverage across major cities, tourist areas, and most of the country. Halo eSIM connects to Thai carrier networks.
Coverage
Coverage is strong in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya, Krabi, Koh Samui, and other major cities and tourist destinations. Most beaches, resorts, and populated islands have reliable coverage.
Remote areas in northern Thailand, national parks, and some smaller islands may have limited or no coverage. Mountainous border regions can have gaps.
Networks
Halo data plans in Thailand run on Thailand’s major mobile networks. Your device finds and connects to a supported network on its own when you land, and reconnects as you travel between cities and islands, so there is nothing to select or configure.
The operator name shown in your status bar may be one you do not recognise, and it may change during your trip. That is normal. Which networks a plan uses is set by our network partners and can change without notice, so each plan lists its own networks and speed policy under Plan details on the Thailand destination page.
Tips for Thailand
Install before you fly, and it’s ready to use when you land. Download your Halo eSIM profile while connected to Wi-Fi at home.
Airport connectivity. Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and Don Mueang (DMK) in Bangkok, and Phuket International (HKT) all have strong network coverage. Your eSIM should connect within minutes of landing.
Island travel. Major islands (Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Phuket, Koh Lanta) have good coverage in populated areas. Smaller or more remote islands may have weaker signals. Download maps and essential information while you have a strong connection.
Northern Thailand. Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai have strong coverage. Trekking areas and hill tribe villages may have limited connectivity.
Data usage. Video calls, streaming, and navigation apps use data quickly in areas with fast connections. Monitor your usage if you have a limited data allowance. See Check your remaining data.
Destination-specific notes
- Thailand uses Band 1 (2100 MHz), Band 3 (1800 MHz), and Band 7 (2600 MHz) for 4G LTE. All modern smartphones support these bands.
- Thailand does not restrict VPN usage for personal use.
- Some apps popular in Thailand (Grab for ride-hailing, Google Maps for navigation) work well on mobile data and are useful for travellers.
